A little about me....

Today I want to tell you more about me. I have added two new tabs to the main page titled "My Testimony" and "Media". The first will tell my basic story and how I came to know Jesus. The second is a scrapbook in pictures of my life. There is more to the story mind you, but it is a good beginning.

My husband and I were married August 31, 2002 in Florida. We honeymooned on Sanibel Island. We both were registered nurses working in different emergency rooms in the central Florida area. My husband had retired from a long career with the Orlando Fire Department. He was married before and has two grown boys. Both boys are now married and the first has three of the cutest girls you will ever see.

My parents joined the State Department when I was nine. We lived in Zambia, the Philippines, Liberia, Ghana, Tanzania and Iraq. I was in local schools until I turned 13 at which time I went to a boarding school in England called TASIS. I graduated from TASIS in 1986 and spent the following year at home with my parents in Tanzania. I had graduated at 16 and really just wanted to take some time before going to college. In fact, I had truly hated high school and didn't want to go to college. After a year and a whole bunch of applications, I was accepted at Dean Junior College in Norfolk, Massachusetts. I graduated with an AA in Liberal Studies. After transferring to George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia and spending two very difficult semesters there, I quit.

I went into the work force to support myself. Mostly working for temp agencies, I managed to pay my bills and live pretty comfortably. After muddling through for several years, I found myself moving to Florida with my parents. Again I was employed as a clerical temp until I finally settled on healthcare as a career path. I graduated from Lake Sumter Community College with an AA in Nursing in 1999. Five days later, I started the University of Central Florida's RN to BSN program. By December of 2000, I had my bachelor's degree. I have worked in many areas of nursing to include the emergency department, cardiac cath lab, intensive care, day surgery, school nursing and now in hospice care. As my career has progressed, I have chosen jobs which afforded me more time to assist my husband in his ministry. In my heart of hearts however, my love will always be the adrenaline pumping ER!

OASIS Church is our first pastoral assignment. My husband is the Administrative/Missions pastor. We serve alongside our lead pastor and his wife, Bubba and Nedra and our student pastor and his wife, Stephen and Lindsi. OASIS is a church plant-very hard work, but very rewarding. We started out in a high school and after 3 years have been blessed with a church property. The church has grown from a 15 member core group to an average Sunday attendance of approximately 175. This time has been a true blessing for us!

Please take a moment to look over the testimony and media tabs. I would love to hear from you so share your comments and thoughts as often as you like.

In His service

It was a Monday

Well, yesterday was my first missed day posting to the blog.  It was truly a Monday.  We moved from my parents house into our "lakefront" property at Lake Yale Conference Center.  For those of you with no idea where Lake Yale is, I have posted a link.   http://www.lybcc.com/   A 27ft camper is now home and we feel really blessed to have been given this place to stay.  It was definitely a challenge to fit everything inside.  I guess I should clarify, we did not bring everything.  We downsized a bit on the clothes, doubled up on each hanger, left a few of Steve's books behind and the harp is staying at Mom's for now.  It took two trips to get everything here.  Just as I pulled in, my parents pulled in behind me.  They had been to a doctor's appointment and stopped by to see the new digs.  My mom marched right up to the sink and began washing dishes for me.  I unloaded my car and attempted to figure out where to put ev...

No more memories

It has been a long 16 months since my last blog post.  Too much has happened...too much. The most significant event was the passing of my mother last September.  It was truly a heart wrenching experience.  Many of you who know me know that my relationship with my mother was difficult.  We loved each other very much, but we had a difficult time spending long periods of time together.  We were both strong willed, independent and opinionated.  She wanted her way and I wanted mine.  Ultimately this caused way too many disagreements and misunderstandings.  These times of turmoil I now realize were a total waste of time for us both.   In those last days, sitting in her hospital room, it became all too apparent we had spend far too many times being frustrated with each other, arguing or not speaking.  When they told us we would have 2 to 12 months on hospice, I resolved myself to make it the best time we had ever had....

Time stolen

Time is quickly stolen away as I realize it has been ten days since I last put my thoughts into a posting.  My weekdays are consumed with work and I am so mentally exhausted at the end of the 10-12 hours, I cannot think of anything except doing nothing.  The weekends are a dash of running errands, church activities and trying to cram time in with family and friends.  When I woke this morning, I could not believe Saturday and Sunday had already come to a close.  This morning actually consisted of my husband waking me at eight minutes after seven.  For a point of reference, I usually leave the house at 7:05 am each day.  That should give you a quick understanding of how my Monday started with a bang.  Before I could get to the car, one of my employees was calling to tell me she would be out sick today.  I tried to force my brain into action as I reviewed what else was going on today.  It had already escaped my memory that I had one employee c...
