I HAVE A JOB! Yes, you heard me right, I am gainfully employed. I will start working on Thursday. They even invited me to attend a farewell party for an employee on Wednesday afternoon so I could meet everyone. So far, each person I have met has been so kind and personable. Several people talk about the practice as a "family". To me, that is super important. I will be working at a doctor's office in Lady Lake, Florida. Lady Lake is home to one of the largest retirement communities in the entire United States. The have over 200+ daily scheduled activities for the residents. Their property expands across two counties and Disney has been involved in much of their design and landscape features.
There are four physicians within the practice and they are actively recruiting additional MD's. They specialize in Internal Medicine, Pulmonology, Nephrology and Family Medicine. There is also a sleep clinic and an infusion center. The head of the group is Dr. Villa. Her desire is to keep her patients healthy and at home by utilizing preventative care practices. I know this because my dad has been with her since 1994. She has gone out of her way to keep him out of the hospital, if at all possible, by using the infusion center to give him daily intravenous antibiotics. She has to be pretty good if my dad is going to stay her patient for almost 20 years!
My job description is at present, what we call, a work in progress. It will develop as we go, which means there is a lot of flexibility to put my own signature on it. There is great potential and I am really looking forward to what becomes of the position. I have never worked in a private practive. The majority of my experience has been in the hospital setting. My early years in the ER made me somewhat of a "trauma junkie". During my interview, there was an emergency in the office and I couldn't resist jumping in, even if it was just to help put the person in the wheechair.
While I wasn't initially looking for full-time employment, I have come to realize this is a great opportunity to put us on solid financial ground. We can put some money away in savings and pay off some debt. As we have been blessed to be living rent free for the present, now is the time to make good use of full-time income. It also puts a cushion in place for major events. For example, our car is 12 years old with 250,000 miles. We have been actively praying it would keep us on the road month after month. Should something happen, we now have the ability to do something about it.
The last six weeks have been a struggle waiting on the Lord to provide. It has also been a lesson in patience and faith. I may not have been hired if my mom hadn't mentioned to Dr. Villa I was lookng for a job. I may not have been hired if this employee wasn't leaving the pratice. Timing is everything and God's timing is always perfect. I have had some time off to re-coup and gear up for the next phase. As always, I am thankful to the Lord for how he orchestrates my life.
