Yesterday we were invited to attend a 4th of July parade in downtown Mount Dora. It is my favorite town in Lake County. Tree lined streets, shops, restaurants, and beautiful old homes. It sits right on Lake Dora. As we sat along the street waiting for the parade to begin, we spent time catching up with old friends, Pastor Pedro and his family.
In all the time I lived here before I never attended a parade. There were the usual fire trucks, police cars and ambulances. Local politicians were promoting for the upcoming primaries by passing out paper fans, flyers and candy. Antique cars, segways and motorcycles filled in the gaps. Everyone was throwing candy to the bystanders. We had a small boy standing next to us, perhaps 3, who quickly learned the concept of grabbing for flying candy. We helped him fill his daddy's pockets, taught him to wave at the parade participants and wave his flag. He was quite frightned of the mounted police horses and backed off the street quite a ways, hiding behind daddy's legs. It lasted about an hour and then everyone packed up their chairs and walked to their cars. Honestly, it was rather "Mayberryish". I loved it.
We said goodbye to our friends and decided to find some lunch. As we turned the corner, Steve recognized a friend of his son's. The young man informed us, Tucker was right behind us. Steve parked the car and we jumped out to say hello. After hugs and parade small talk, we decided to get some lunch together. When we hopped back into the car and Steve looks at me and states, "Another small blessing, thank you Lord." He was so excited we ran into the kids/grandkids and were able on the spur of the moment to catch a meal together. It was just another bonus of God bringing us back to this area.
It is important to recognize the small blessings God gives us each and every day. Sometimes we are looking so hard at the bigger requests - sell my house, find me a job, build our church - that we don't notice the little bits that make memories. As small blessings are bestowed upon us, so we too can bestow them upon others. We are so thankful we have been put in close proximity to family. Watching the grandkids grow is something we have missed the past 6 years. The opportunity will not be taken for granted.
