Well it is official - I have lost control of my temple. I spent several months earlier this year getting a handle on my eating only to have stepped on the scale a couple of days ago and realize I have gained back everything I lost. I had also purchased some new clothes only to realize they don't fit very well now. Honestly, I am a little disgusted with myself. How does it get away from you so quickly? I could blame it on the move, the stress of trying to find a job, the move again, trying to build the church, and selling a house, but they are just that, excuses.
When I look back on how I used to treat myself, I am so far away from that it is scary. Now, I know what all of you are thinking. It was easy to eat right and exercise when you were single without all the responsibilities; however, that is just another excuse. I know plenty of married people with kids and jobs and they still make time for some form of exercise and they still make good choices at the grocery store. I have eaten oreos, ice cream, croissants, and double portions for the last month. It only took a month! My only consolation is that Steve is feeling the affects of bad choices as well.
So enough complaining, what am I going to do about it? Well, the pantry and refridgerator and now under control. None of that "unhealthy" stuff has made it to the camper. So when we go looking for something, there isn't really a bad choice to make. Only eating my portion size is the next best thing - no return trips. The other big ticket is all the bread. We have been eating multiple bread portions with every dinner meal and it shows! I believe the other huge problem is that I replaced my horrible diet coke addiction with sweet tea. That's right, I went from formaldehyde that would preserve my cells to sugar that would grow my cells.
Then the next best thing I can do is exercise. I found a very easy program posted on Pinterest. There are three sets of 20 days each. The idea it to build up an aerobic ability to where you are jogging. Now, so many of you are groaning over the jogging and trust me I am groaning with you. But, you have two choices. You can either do it or do something in its place. My plan is to try and do it. I used to be a jogger and I was in the best shape every! I could splurge on what I was eating and the jogging would keep me in check. If jogging really isn't your thing, then walk or bike or swim or something. I guess you are getting the hint that it would be nice if some of you did this with me.

So, I am going to post each day's activity to this blog. My girlfriend here in Florida said she would do it with me. Hopefully some of you will too. If you decide to participate, I would love it if you would comment here in the blog about it. So here is the plan for the first 20 days:
Now as you can see, Day 1 is only 20 jumping jacks and 10 crunches. I am not asking much of myself or you am I?! Why do we need to do this? Well I don't think I need to spout the health benefits to anyone. All of you know these reasons all ready. More importently there is a biblical reason to do it. God actually speaks in his word about caring for the temple. He is referring to your body. Everyone who knows the Lord and has the Holy Spirit inside us is a temple of God. Scripture tells us, "Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy and you are that temple." (1 Cor 3:16-17) That is pretty clear don't you think? One more to help you along, "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." (1 Cor 10:31 ESV) Is God glorified when you consume that supersized fast food meal or have eaten so much you have to unbutton your jeans .
Please consider joining me in the first 20 days. This is not about us being supermodel thin or overconsumed with appearance. This is about health and glorifying God.
