The door re-opened.

Recently I discussed how just because doors open does not mean you need to walk through them.  Today, I would like to re-visit the issue as a door has been re-opened for us.  As you know, we have been staying with my parents in a 55+ community.  My mother requested passes for us to be able to stay long term until we could sell our home in Amherst.  We have received notice from the Community Administration that we will not be allowed to stay longer than 30 days.  The 30 days is up next Thursday.  So after having told Lake Yale we appreciated their offer, but would not be needing the RV, we have had to call them back and say "Can we take you up on it anyway?"

They have been very gracious and are preparing the trailer for us as we speak.  Even to the point of cleaning it.  It is going to be tight on space, but it is free and on the Lake Yale Conference Center campus.  This means we can walk to church, yes I said walk.  There is a possibility in August, a larger RV will be available for us to move into.  We are certainly praying for this option as extra space is always welcome.  Now I am deep in thought about plates, cookware, utensils and the like as everything I have is in Virginia.  Everything that is except a rice cooker, bread machine and crockpot.  All of which are very handy, but none of which are a spoon or a spatula.  I am sure mom can help me rustle up a few things to tide me over until Steve returns to collect some of our things.  I told him all we really needed was the camping gear as that has what we would need to live out of an RV.

Honestly, it is a bit humorous as we have been teasing my brother and sister-in-law over who would get the first RV.  Looks like that will be us!  While speaking with someone today, I proudly stated, "I will have my lake front property by next week and they even have a place to launch the boat!"  Lake Yale is on the lake and nestled in amongst quite a few trees both palm and oak.  We will be on an extended camping trip and that is rather appealing.  Especially since there isn't any time this year to take a true trip as we have in years past.

When we made the decision just 2 weeks ago to sit tight with my parents, it seemed like the right thing to do.  It is certainly comfortable and we have anything we need.  The only real down side was the distance from the church.  So why would God have us wait a mere 10 days or so before letting us know we were going to have to move anyway?  Maybe he was teaching a lesson on waiting.  As God is all knowing, he was aware the larger RV would be coming available in August.  Perhaps he wanted us to see that something better was on the horizon.  The larger RV is a 5th wheel with 3 bump outs and that is certainly bigger than the pull along.  Perhaps it has been harder on my parents than it appeared to have two extra people in the house.  We know they love us and would do anything for us, but it is still people in your house.  Maybe this is God's way of saying each family needs to live on its own.

Whatever the reason, He has provided a solution.  We are grateful there is somewhere for us to land and even more grateful it is still a "free" solution.  Sometimes you don't understand the reasons until some time has passed.  We want to be in His will, doing His work as effectively as we can.  We will certainly be more effective living right on the campus.  Whenever God has you repeatedly re-visit as issue or concept, take notice.  There is something He is trying to teach you, an important point He really wants you to get.  Be listening to His leading.

In His service

It was a Monday

Well, yesterday was my first missed day posting to the blog.  It was truly a Monday.  We moved from my parents house into our "lakefront" property at Lake Yale Conference Center.  For those of you with no idea where Lake Yale is, I have posted a link.   http://www.lybcc.com/   A 27ft camper is now home and we feel really blessed to have been given this place to stay.  It was definitely a challenge to fit everything inside.  I guess I should clarify, we did not bring everything.  We downsized a bit on the clothes, doubled up on each hanger, left a few of Steve's books behind and the harp is staying at Mom's for now.  It took two trips to get everything here.  Just as I pulled in, my parents pulled in behind me.  They had been to a doctor's appointment and stopped by to see the new digs.  My mom marched right up to the sink and began washing dishes for me.  I unloaded my car and attempted to figure out where to put ev...

No more memories

It has been a long 16 months since my last blog post.  Too much has happened...too much. The most significant event was the passing of my mother last September.  It was truly a heart wrenching experience.  Many of you who know me know that my relationship with my mother was difficult.  We loved each other very much, but we had a difficult time spending long periods of time together.  We were both strong willed, independent and opinionated.  She wanted her way and I wanted mine.  Ultimately this caused way too many disagreements and misunderstandings.  These times of turmoil I now realize were a total waste of time for us both.   In those last days, sitting in her hospital room, it became all too apparent we had spend far too many times being frustrated with each other, arguing or not speaking.  When they told us we would have 2 to 12 months on hospice, I resolved myself to make it the best time we had ever had....

Time stolen

Time is quickly stolen away as I realize it has been ten days since I last put my thoughts into a posting.  My weekdays are consumed with work and I am so mentally exhausted at the end of the 10-12 hours, I cannot think of anything except doing nothing.  The weekends are a dash of running errands, church activities and trying to cram time in with family and friends.  When I woke this morning, I could not believe Saturday and Sunday had already come to a close.  This morning actually consisted of my husband waking me at eight minutes after seven.  For a point of reference, I usually leave the house at 7:05 am each day.  That should give you a quick understanding of how my Monday started with a bang.  Before I could get to the car, one of my employees was calling to tell me she would be out sick today.  I tried to force my brain into action as I reviewed what else was going on today.  It had already escaped my memory that I had one employee c...
